Breast Cancer Prevention

I have decided that my topic for the research paper will be Breast Cancer Prevention. This is something that is near and dear to my heart. My mother is a breast cancer survivor. It is a scary thing knowing that breast cancer could be in my future. My mom was very young when her breast cancer was found, and should have been found much earlier. Prevention is key to avoiding breast cancer. There are so many ways to prevent the disease. Preventative screening is very important, unfortunately, it is my opinion that screening should begin much earlier in life than it does. I personally had a base line mammogram at the age of 21. My mother was diagnosed with her cancer when she was 31, and it is the recommendation that a child of someone who has had breast cancer, should have a base line at the age that they are 10 years younger than the parent was at the time of diagnosis. This, for me, was very important. Luckily, I was able to get my insurance to cover the test, which I know in most cases, they do not. So, for me, preventing breast cancer is the way to fight it!!

As far as our learning experience here at Kaplan goes, I am very pleased. It sometimes takes longer than desired to receive grades and communication with our professors through email is sometimes lacking, but all in all, it has been a great experience. For me personally, this set up is much more realistic. Not having to find a babysitter and gas to drive to an on ground campus is a plus in itself. Other than that, we have wonderful resources and it is a very flexible schedule for people who are otherwise to consumed in day to day life to attend on ground courses. I hope everyone has had a similar experience to mine and is as satisfied as I have been thus far!!

  1. I agree with you about prevention. I worry about my daughters because I am a breast cancer survivor also. My cancer did not show up on the mammogram because it was attached to the nipple(not sure what the scientific name is), so if anything looks strange -do not take "no" for an answer. Keep searching for a reason.
